Meet The Doctors

Michael Fallon M.D. obtained his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1985 and, after a brief stint playing hockey in Sweden, went on to graduate from SUNY – Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1993. After a year of General Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in New York, he completed his Radiation Oncology residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1997. He then joined the Marshfield Clinic, providing oncology care at their free-standing facility in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. While with the Marshfield Clinic, Dr. Fallon established the Clinic’s first Prostate Seed Implant program, performing over 100 implants in the first 2 years of service. In 1999, he achieved Board Certification in Radiation Oncology and then moved west to Yakima, Washington. There he led the Radiology division of a multi-specialty group in the construction and development of a 21,000 sq. ft cancer center. In the summer of 2001, he joined the Lourdes Regional Cancer Center as the Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology. In 2004, through the efforts of many individuals, he helped establish Radiation Oncology Services of Cortland New York, bringing the latest technology and finest cancer care to the Cortland community.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Fallon has gained an expertise in radioactive implantation techniques, performing over 800 prostate, breast, cervical, endometrial, and lung implants and, during his time at the Marshfield Clinic, was the primary investigator for the BETA-Cath trial (Coronary artery implantation). He has extensive experience with 3-D Conformal Radiation, Intensity Modulated Radiation, and Image Guided Radiation techniques. He is a member of the American College of Radiology, American College of Radiation Oncology, and American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

Dr. Fallon and his wife Paula along with Tucker Joe and Millie (their Golden retriever and kitty) can often be spotted driving up and down I81 between Binghamton and Cortland.

Surjeet Pohar, M.D.

Surjeet Pohar, M.D. has practiced Radiation Oncology since 1992. His experience includes being a faculty member of the Cleveland Clinic and University of Kansas. He moved to upstate NY to join SUNY Upstate as an assistant professor in 2001. He joined the faculty of Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2006 as an associate professor. He is pleased to return to upstate NY in 2009.

Dr. Pohar was born in India and raised in Edmonton, Canada. He completed his M.D. at the Univ. of Alberta in Edmonton in 1985. He completed his residency at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton in 1991. He subsequently completed a fellowship in brachytherapy in France.

Dr. Pohar has numerous publications in leading oncology journals with emphasis on head and neck cancer, sarcomas and brachytherapy.
Dr. Pohar is married and has 2 children. He enjoys many sports and is coaching his son’s soccer team.
